An Ordinary Level pupil from Msiteli High School in Bulawayo has been picked up by police after he was allegedly caught copying answers from a leaked Mathematics Paper Two. The boy, 17, was caught cheating in the exam room last Thursday.

Police arrested the pupil together with his brother who allegedly gave him the leaked paper.

The two brothers appeared before magistrate, Tency Dube, facing a charge of unlawfully gaining access to examination materials.

They both pleaded guilty and were remanded to today for judgment.

Prosecuting Kenneth Shava told the court that last Thursday, the pupil and his brother, gained access to an Ordinary Level Mathematics 2014 Paper Two.

The court heard that the pupil was sitting his examination at Msiteli High School in Bulawayo when the invigilator spotted him copying answers from a piece of paper.

Shava said the invigilator quickly alerted the authorities who then called in the police leading to the pupil’s arrest. He said when the pupil was interrogated, he then implicated his brother.

The police immediately dispatched a team to the boy’s house where they arrested his brother.

Shava said the police searched their home and discovered a photocopied Ordinary Level Mathematics Paper Two for 2014.

The brother told the police that he got the paper from his aunt who resides in Gweru.

Three weeks ago, police in Gweru arrested six people from different schools including a headmaster and a cook at Mkoba Teachers’ College for allegedly leaking an Ordinary Level Mathematics Paper One, Integrated Science Paper Three and Commerce Paper Two to pupils and private candidates.

The six are out of custody on $100 bail and their matter was remanded to Friday for trial. The Chronicle
