Charles Charamba’s Warning to Daughters

After decades in the music industry, Charles Charamba has seen it all. And when his two daughters, Shalom and Eternity launched their music careers, he had words of wisdom for the aspiring gospel singers.

“The advice we give to our children has much of its emphasis on doing everything with sincerity, well-meaning, prayerfully, respecting people and revering God,” said Charamba.

Charamba who has been tenacious in his gospel genre, gaining accolades for his efforts, said the same counsel would apply to his daughters. “The same advice we give to our siblings in Christ out there is the same that we have for our biological ones,” added the musician.

He, however, said his daughters must not be pressured to imitate anyone else but rather be creative. “They must not be pressured to sing like anyone else but must remain themselves. Pace and frequency of release should be at their discretion,” he added.

Shalom released “Mbiri Yose” while Eternity (18) did “Tonamata”, with both singles amassing sizable views after premiering. An album will be launched later. “We did not anticipate such a massive response and we would like to thank music followers for supporting our daughters in such a big way. It is not often that musicians get such massive responses to debut releases,” Charamba said.

With five children, the Charambas has become a musical family but they did not push their children to pursue music, however, the children pestered their parents for studio time. “We were waiting for the right time to introduce them to the world, but they have been doing music since they were young. We have seen how their interest continued growing and we decided to support them”

A preview of their two singles reveals a striking resemblance from their mothers’ vocals, though a bit unripe. “They are different in their approach to music, which makes it better because people will be able to differentiate their styles.” The duo is backed by the Fishers of Men, their parent’s band.

“It is every parent’s wish to see their children doing better than them. It is also every mother’s wish to see daughters doing well. When daughters do not do well, it is the mother who usually takes the blame,” said Olivia Charamba.

As their parents are aging, it remains to be seen if the children can fit into their parents’ shoes. Olivia wishes they do better, added Olivia. “When parents achieve certain things, they wish their children can excel beyond that level. It is my wish that these daughters and any of their siblings who will follow our footsteps do better than us.”
