Christine Rambanepasi Java, the mother to trendsetter Prophet Passion and Apostle Batsirai Java who died on 03 December 2020, was a blessing, and a Joseph to her family.

The former opposition politician died after a long battle with cancer, aged 64. According to her sons, she was both a mother and a father to the family, after the death of their father Charles.

“She had gone beyond a level of being a mother. Christine Rambanepasi Java was a mother and father to us. And also she a blessing,” Prophet Passion Java said.

Born in November 1956, in Buhera, she attended Sharara primary and Chiteshe secondary schools, respectively. She later trained as a nurse aid, working in a Chitungwiza hospital.

A year after the formation of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) in 1999, she became an active member. She held the post of provincial secretary for elections in Manicaland province for the party. At the time of her death, she represented the MDC Alliance in the national assembly, as a proportional representative for Buhera.

Her interests included farming, healthcare, and of course politics, a field dominated mainly by men. Her involvement in politics showed her grit and tenacity within the political space that is less tolerant to women, especially in Africa. In the 2018 harmonised elections, Christine became a senator for the first time. And this showed her fighting character.

“She was a matriarchy, a Joseph in the Rambanepasi family. She was a giver. And we are here because of her,” Apostle Batsirai Java said, adding that she had encouraged him to save money to get married after his wife passed on.

At the height of her suffering, she was discharged from the hospital for home-based care. She was announced dead on Sunday at 2 am at the Avenues clinic. Mourning his mother, charismatic preacher Prophet Passion described her as a general.

“The womb that carried Passion Java. The general that brought forth the prophet. The hands that nursed an enigma, the man and his mission,” he wrote on his Instagram page, attracting a flood of comments and likes.

Prophet Passion attributed his growing influence to his deceased mother. “The mother that bore me and transported me into this world from the other world has gone back to the one who is above all, the creator of the universe.

“As I reminisce even just a few seconds after the happening I look back to the love and cover she gave me here on earth and looking beyond the curtain of time I see her embracing her maker. I am touched and I am crushed at the same time but as a man that understands the spiritual,” Prophet Passion added.

The two brothers enjoy a respectable following within the Christian community. “She experienced my growth in the Lord and saw the Lord use me in many countries & the Lord blessed me enough to honour her and reward her for all she did for me plus more although no one can really repay a parent. She left after living a fulfilled life. Mother, I love you and miss you already,” Prophet Passion mourned.

The widow is survived by her seven children, including Batsirai, Passion, Mavis, and Artwell.
